In room 1 and 2 this term we have been learning to use bit strips which is an internet thing that you can use to create comic strips.  In room 2 we started by looking at how narratives are structured and then we looked at some fairy tales and how they used description, structure and static images to help interest the audience and create impact.  I really liked thinking about how to use colour to show different moods and personalities... like green for evil or jealousy and white for peace.  After that Miss Matangi told us that we had to re-create Cinderella but we had to change some things: we had to use Hermione Granger instead of the fairy godmother and we had to have the setting at Longburn School.  We used role on the wall, hotseating and corridors of thoughts to help us create our characters properly and then we wrote our stories... and, we thought we were done and then Miss Matangi said we had to add humour to give more detail and create more impact and interest for our audience - so we did and we thought we were done.... and then Miss Matangi said we were going to change the form of the narrative to a comic!  We were really excited because we'd seen room 1 do their bit strips but we thought Miss Matangi was crazy because we'd written so much and then we had to just leave out heaps and make it a comic.  But what we learned was that all the detail we'd written was good as it helped us to plan and storyboard our comic and know how to make images that helped us show mood and detail instead of just writing it.  Using bit strips was really cool too because we learnt how to make lots of characters and scenes and backgrounds and we could make them like proper comics and publish them online.  You can see mine on my room 2 class page!
